Welcome to Mount Vernon! We’re glad you’re here and hope this page helps you get to know some of the wonderful people in our church family. We look forward to sharing our journey with you and helping you feel right at home.

Senior Pastor
Sean Porter
As pastor, husband, and father of five girls, I’m passionate about one-on-one discipleship with other men and helping people grow in their faith. I love spending time outdoors—whether it’s fishing or just about any activity that involves fresh air and sunshine. I’m excited to be here, and I look forward to walking alongside you in your journey of faith.

Children’s Church & Women’s Ministry Leader
Victoria Porter
As the Children’s Church Leader and a homeschool mother of five wonderful girls, I’m blessed to be part of such a warm and welcoming church family here at Mount Vernon. My greatest joy is spending time with my family, whether we’re working on homeschool projects or simply enjoying each other’s company. In my free time, you’ll often find me with my hands in clay or a paintbrush in hand, as pottery and painting are my creative outlets. I look forward to meeting you and your family and helping our youngest members grow in their faith!

Chairman of Deacons
Darrell Warwick
I’ve been a proud member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for the past 33 years, and it’s been an incredible journey. As Chairman of the Deacons, I love serving the church and helping out wherever I can. When I’m not volunteering, you can probably find me out on the water—fishing or boating is where I feel most at peace. I look forward to meeting you and sharing in this wonderful community!

Music Director
Sherri Warwick
I’ve been attending this church for 57 years now, and my biggest hobby is being a grandma to our precious baby granddaughter. I also love all types of art such as drawing and painting. Presently, I am working on my pottery skills, learning to get better at throwing on the wheel. Now, as I take on the role once again as music director, my focus will be to improve in that area.

Deacon & Sunday School Teacher (Adults)
Neil McDonald
I’ve been blessed to be a part of this church for 57 years, and I love every minute of it. As both a deacon and a Sunday School teacher, I’m committed to serving our congregation and helping others grow in their faith. When I’m not at church, you’ll probably find me on the golf course or spending time with my family. I consider my church family just as important, and I look forward to welcoming you into it!

Treasurer
Nikki McDonald
I met the love of my life at Mt Vernon Baptist Church in May 1998 and married him three months later at the same beautiful gray stone country church. That was 26 years ago. I enjoy spending my time with my family and my dogs- Jeter and Judah, and I am a true crime fanatic. I believe humor and chocolate can fix just about anything!

Sunday School Teacher (1st-3rd grade)
Cindy Fields
I’ve been attending Mount Vernon for 50 years, and teaching the 1st through 3rd graders in Sunday School is one of my greatest joys. I love watching the children grow in their faith. Outside of church, I enjoy crochet, drawing, and curling up with a good book. I’d love to get to know you, whether it’s in the classroom or over a shared love for crafts!

Sound & Media Operator
James Fields
I’ve been a part of Mount Vernon for 35 years, working behind the scenes to make sure the sound and slideshows run smoothly during our services. I enjoy hunting and fishing—though, let’s be honest, with my current workload, I mostly just think about them instead! Even if I don’t get much time in the woods, I’m always happy to help the church sound its best. Looking forward to meeting you!

Deacon & Baptist Men’s Director
William Parnell
For the past 50 years, Mount Vernon has been my church home. As the Baptist Men’s Director, I enjoy leading our group and helping with various projects around the church. I’ve always loved working with my hands, whether it’s carpentry or fixing things, and I’m always happy to lend a hand wherever it’s needed. Fishing is my way of relaxing, but nothing brings me more joy than working alongside my church family.

Church Secretary
Linda Parnell
I’ve been attending Mount Vernon for 50 years, and it has been such an important part of my life. As the church secretary, I love helping keep everything organized and running smoothly. Outside of church, I stay active by attending exercise classes and participating in the Grays Creek Woman’s Club. And of course, taking care of our dog is a big part of my daily routine! I’m always happy to meet new faces and help them get connected with the church.

Deacon
Jerry Cyrus
Even though I’ve only been at Mount Vernon for 4 years, it already feels like home. As a deacon, I enjoy being a part of the church’s leadership and helping out wherever I’m needed. Outside of church, you can often find me fishing, hiking through nature, or tending to my garden. I’m always happy to have a conversation, especially about gardening tips or outdoor adventures!
